Set environment variables

Add or update the supplied variables without removing others. A variable sent without isSecret is stored as secret when its name or value looks like a credential (DATABASE_URL, *_TOKEN, *_PASSWORD, a URL with a password); send isSecret: false to keep it readable. Set preserve to true to leave an existing value unchanged; with preserve, isSecret: true marks it secret, and a secret can never be turned back into a readable value.

Clients are told this tool can remove, overwrite or interrupt resources, or grant access. Set your client to ask before it runs it.

Example call

The params of a tools/call request. Replace the placeholder values with your own IDs.

{
  "name": "setEnvironmentVariables",
  "arguments": {
    "projectId": "REPLACE_WITH_PROJECT_ID",
    "variables": [
      {
        "key": "API_TOKEN",
        "value": "replace-this-value",
        "isSecret": true
      }
    ]
  }
}

Result

The same data as the API operation, wrapped as {"untrusted_data": true, "source": "setEnvironmentVariables", "note": "...", "data": ...} so the model treats project content as data, not instructions.
